Dennis D. Gordy, M.D. FACS
Ophthalmic Surgeon

Dennis D. Gordy, M.D. FACS is a highly skilled Ophthalmic Surgeon and Ophthalmic Plastic Surgeon. Dr. Gordy graduated Phi Beta Kappa honors from Cornell College. Dr. Gordy graduated from the University of Iowa, College of Medicine with Alpha Omega Alpha honors in 1973. Following medical school, Dr. Gordy performed a General Medicine internship at Los Angeles County General Hospital and then practiced General Medicine. Dr. Gordy then returned to the University of Iowa Hospitals for an Ophthalmology residency at the University of Iowa Ophthalmology Department, which is recognized as one of the top programs in the United States. While in Iowa City, Dr. Gordy specialized in Cataract surgery and Ophthalmic Plastic surgery.

In August 1988, Dr. Gordy opened Iowa Eye Institute, P.C., an ophthalmology practice and free standing Ambulatory Surgery Center. This surgery center was one of the first ambulatory surgery centers in the state of Iowa. The surgery center was devoted exclusively to ophthalmic surgery. In 2010, Iowa Eye Institute Surgery Center expanded and updated its medical and surgical equipment and became a Medicare certified multi-specialty surgery center re-named Spencer Surgery and Laser Center, LLC. Dr. Gordy is the Medical Director of Spencer Surgery and Laser Center, LLC. Dr. Gordy continues to perform a wide variety of ophthalmic surgery and ophthalmic plastic surgery at the surgery center.

Dr. Gordy served as President of the Iowa Academy of Ophthalmology. Dr. Gordy served as a member of the Cornell College Board of Trustees and was Chairman of the Finance Committee for seven years.

Dr. Gordy provides a full range of quality ophthalmology care for all ages, including Cataract and Implant surgery, Ophthalmic Plastic surgery, Laser surgery for Glaucoma, Diabetes, Macular Degeneration and Retinal disorders, Strabismus and Pediatric surgery.

Alexander Pruitt, M.D. FAAOS FACS
Orthopaedic Surgeon

Dr. Pruitt resided with his family in Council Bluffs, NE, attending Lewis Central High. He graduated from U.S. Military Academy, West Point, NY in 1976, and from Creighton University in 1983. Following medical school, he began internship and residency at Fitzsimons Army Medical Center, Aurora, CO through 1989, performing military orthopaedic surgeon duties in following years.

Board certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS), Dr. Pruitt also has fellowship designation with the AAOS as well as the ACS.

In 1993, Dr. Pruitt began an orthopaedic surgery practice in Spencer, IA and surrounding communities. In 2004, Orthopaedics PC began as a new orthopaedic practice in NW Iowa, where Dr. Pruitt continued to serve NW Iowa patients, families, and the medical community, through diagnosis and treatment. Orthopaedics PC’s location in downtown Spencer as well as clinic locations in Estherville and Emmetsburg.

In 2008, Orthopaedics PC and Dr. Pruitt were joined in their medical services by two experienced physician assistants: Sue Harman, PA-C, and Jessica Prewitt-Emerson, PA-C.

Orthopaedics PC offers care and quality for each patient and at the same time provides the latest in electronic records, computerized x-rays, and digital OPEN MRI on site. Orthopaedics PC offers convenient scheduling and access through the efforts of certified and experienced orthopaedic practitioners and staff.

Along with busy patient schedules, Dr. Pruitt, his wife, Jean, and their sons continue their enthusiastic participation in the growing and dynamic Northwest Iowa Youth Soccer Alliance, an organization that they’ve been instrumental in developing along with other community members and their families.
